I have super, super good news. I have inherited 2.5 million dollars!
I know what you’re thinking. she probably just got one of those random email from somebody in Ghana telling her she’s inherited money from the late somebody or other. But no, I’m not that gullible. I didn’t just get a random email from somebody in Ghana. I got a phone call from somebody in Ghana. Several phone calls, actually. And then a few emails, but they referenced our phone conversations.
So that’s way more legitimate, right?
Here’s what happened. This guy died. I didn’t know the deceased, I’ve never heard of the deceased, but apparently he died in a car accident along with his wife and daughter, who were his beneficiaries. He had no relatives, as he was an orphan who made his way to Ghana in 1975. Therefore, they have concluded that I am his next of kin, since we share the same nationality and the same last name. His name was Steven Beth’s Corner.
Huh?
I have to admit, this last part confused me a little bit. My last name isn’t “Corner” or “Beth’s Corner.” If it were, my name would be “Mary Beth’s Corner.”
Then I remembered. On my speaking web site (www.reallove.net), there is a section on the home page called “Mary Beth’s Corner,” where I post random tidbits that I think might be interesting to readers. Either by some massive coincidence an orphan named Steven Beth’s Corner has died with his family and my unfortunately worded home page has hampered their search for the legitimate heir (perhaps the elderly Mrs. Edna Beth’s Corner in central Ohio), or somebody with a particularly low IQ is attempting to scam me.
Do you think this means I don’t get the money?

I sometimes get three of these in one day - it is amazing that people actually fall for these scams. If the scammers only invested their time into legitimate businesses, they would probably make more money in less time.
I too have received such good news, someone died and wanted to entrust me to hold their money..for which they would give me a large cut of it...I just had to give them my banking information so they could wire the money to me...
I really needed this chuckle today.. thanks for the great tongue in cheek post. :)
If you do get the money, I have some properties up here in Green Bay that would make excellent investments. lol
Take care.
Yes, it sounds like it! But, on a related note, don't you love getting those spam emails all day telling you someone in Africa or Europe wants to pay you a SUM of money that they inherited and to transfer to your bank, lol??
Since I route all my email through Gmail, I haven't received a spam email in months...that's a fantastic spam filter!
I think you should send him all your back account numbers and social security number and all the other information and see what happens? What could go wrong? :)
Oh...that is too funny. I still wonder who the people are that are gullible enough to fall for this stuff.
Ok Bwannaette, We be sending tha muny veri suun. Jus mak sur u send us tha postage deposit. LOL
The weird thing is that this guy is CALLING me! Over and over. And when I hang up on him he calls back. Several times! My brother suggested that I ask him to send $250 to my PayPal account, to show good faith. All you need is an email address for PayPal. And then pocket the $250 and go on with my life. I'm not going to do it, but I thought it was a pretty clever idea!
Mary Beth,
I, too, have had numerous contacts informing me that I have won Millions!!!!!!!!!!!!! Besides being a Realtor, Interior Designer and Stager in Myrtle Beach, SC, I also am a breeder of top quality Labrador Retrievers. From past litters, we have gotten 17 "bogus" checks, money orders and fraudulent postal money orders. All were turned over to the proper authorities and are being investigated by Federal authorities. To date, the total amount of "deposits" for our pups is over $17,000 US dollars. Beware!!! This is a way to try and access your personal information ( including banking information, address, social security numbers, etc.) The temptation is strong, but this is a total scam.

LOL! No money there hunny!
I know it's obviously a scam. I'm the heir because the guy's name is Steven Beth's Corner? My only question at this point is whether there's any agency interested enough in this to report it.
